Salvos, or the Salvation Army, is among the largest and probably the most recognisable charity organisations in Australia. Salvos is best known for its vast op shop network and drop-off points across the nation, allowing Aussies to donate their unwanted items conveniently and buy pre-loved items sustainably.
Currently, Salvos operates about 350 op shops which also double up as drop-off points. You can find their donation bins usually placed in front of the store – the bins are usually red (though some are green or even black) with the “The Salvation Army” logo on the front.
Salvos also offers free home pickup option for oversized items like furniture, rugs etc., as long as they’re still in good condition. To arrange a pickup, call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58).
You can find multiple Salvos op shop stores in all major cities in Australia and select regional areas.

Each Salvos op-shop or drop-off point has its own opening hours and days, but generally, they are open from 9 am to 5:30 pm from Monday to Saturday. The majority of the stores and drop-off points are closed on Sunday.
Goods donated to Salvos are sorted and then sold in their op shop. All the profit generated from the sales is used to fund their other charity programs like homelessness services, youth services, disaster recovery and more. As per The Salvation Army wiki page, the charity extends help to over a million Australians every year.
