Founded in 1958, Good Sammy is a Western Australia social enterprise that provides job training and assistance to people with disabilities allowing them to gain meaningful employment opportunities. Currently, it runs 25 op shops in WA, and almost 50 percent of the workforce is made of people with disabilities.
The goods sold in Good Sammy op shops are sourced from their donation bins or by donations made directly to the stores. Good Sammy operates over 345 donation bins and collection points. The bins are usually bright yellow and are placed outside their op shops and select second-hand store.
Home collection option is available but only for bulkier items or donations. You can call 1300 GOOD SAMMY (1300 466 372) for home collection.
As a general thumb rule, if the item is in wearable or working condition without any rips or stains, it can be donated.
Good Sammy accepts a wide range of items, including:
• Clothing, shoes and other accessories.
• Toys, books, puzzles, and games
• Bric-a-brac
• Furniture
Smaller items that aren’t fragile should be dropped directly inside the donation bins, while oversized items can either be donated directly to their op-shops or picked up from your home free of charge. Do not leave the items outside the bin, as they might be stolen or damaged.
The donation bins are open 24/7, but the op shops have different opening hours depending on the location. Usually, the Good Sammy op shops are open from 9 AM – 5 PM Monday to Saturday and 12 PM – 4:30 PM on Sundays. The stores may remain closed on public holidays.
You can check the opening hours and accepted items on the individual listing page above.
Like other organisations like Lifeline or Salvos, Good Sammy also sells donated items at their op-shops and puts the proceeds and profits into funding their services and programs. You can rest easy knowing your pre-loved items get a second life and are helping people with disabilities.
