Good on you, Gold Coasters, for donating your preloved items. We have located 190 charity donation bins in the region. Use our locator below to find your nearest charity bin’s exact location, hours, and contact details.

Have we missed a Gold Coast donation bin? Contact us at https://findcharitybins.com.au/contact/ with the location, contact details, and accepted items of any Gold Coast charity donation bin you don’t see on our list. This will help get more preloved items into the hands of those who need them most.

Why donate?

With an estimated 591,473 Gold Coasters as of 2022, there is a huge opportunity to keep preloved and secondhand items out of landfills. These donations also benefit charities such as Lifeline, Vinnies, Red Cross, RSPCA, Salvos, and more. That’s because donated items are sorted and sold affordably at each respective charity’s op shop. This brings millions of dollars to these charities each year, making a significant difference in the lives of those in need.

What can be donated?

We can further eliminate waste by better understanding what can and cannot be donated. In general, charitable organisations accept a wide range of preloved and secondhand items, as long as they’re in good condition. These items vary from organisation to organisation and may include but are not limited to:

  • Clothing
  • Shoes
  • Accessories
  • Jewellery
  • Bags
  • Books
  • Kitchenware
  • Bed linen
  • Towels
  • Games
  • Toys
  • DVDs
  • Framed artwork

Before donating, wash all items and conduct a quick quality check for items that are damaged, broken, stained, or missing pieces. If you’re unsure whether an item is suitable for donation, ask yourself whether you’d feel comfortable gifting these items to a loved one. If you’re still unsure,

call your local op shop and ask. They’d be happy to tell you which items they need more of and which items are unsuitable.

Some Donating Dos and Don’ts:

Do

  • Thoroughly clean all items first (don’t forget to check clothing pockets!).
  • Make sure items are not stained, damaged, broken, missing parts, etc.
  • Call ahead to find out what is needed or to see if large items which do not fit inside the bin, such as furniture or electrical items, are accepted.
  • Put donations inside the bin, always.
  • Go into the op shop, call the shop, or come back at another time if the bin is full. Never leave items outside of a bin.

Don’t

  • Leave anything outside of the bin. Not only could you be fined for illegal dumping but this could also harm the very charities. you’re aiming to help, as they may be responsible for the removal costs. Even perfectly usable donations can be stolen or damaged beyond use when improperly left outside of the bin.
  • Donate unusable (damaged, stained, etc.) items. Charity organisations also bear the burden of removing such items and any associated costs.

Now that you’ve found your local charity bin and know which items can be dropped off, rate and review your local charity bin via our app to help other Gold Coasters find reliable donation points.
